Tuesday, August 2
Linda drove us to Alameda, and I just went in to Walgreens and Safeway, while Linda and Emily listened to classical music in the van.
Tuesday, August 9
We went to Alameda, and Linda got out on her scooter and rode into the farmers’ market where we got 3 doz. Eggs, 4 baskets of berries, and Swiss chard.
David came at 2 p.m. for physical therapy. Linda now has an elliptical she can use while sitting.
Thursday, August 11
Linda has stopped using the bedside commode and is just walking (with her walker) to the bathroom and is able to bathe on a shower chair in the bathtub with a handheld showerhead. She just got an elliptical machine that sits on the floor and she pedals with her feet. She has had her physical therapist twice this week to “encourage” her to exercise. He wants her to be able to walk outside with her rolling walker, but of course will need to take her portable oxygen canister. She has become very obsessed with her diet! Trying to eat low carb (which, for her, is under 100 grams). Since one of her diagnoses was “hyperglycemia” she was able to get a blood glucose monitor for $0 co-pay. Her A1C when she left the hospital was 5.6% (just under pre-diabetes level), so she has gotten really serious! She tracks calories, sodium, carbs, fat, protein, and fiber. Needless to say, I’ve been cooking a lot!
Oh, she not only drove to Alameda last Tuesday but got out with her scooter and we went through the farmers’ market. She’s obsessed with raspberries! And all berries since she has discovered how low in carbs berries are! Then she drove to the grocery stores (Trader Joe’s and Safeway) but she and Emily stayed in the van and listened to the radio while I ran through the stores.
Tuesday, August 23
Linda bought a sleeve for her portable oxygen canister that attaches to the back of her scooter so Emily can ride in her carrier on the scooter floorboard.
