The traffic was light this Friday afternoon and I got to the Acupuncture clinic earlier than usual. I had enough time to schedule my next appointment and then even waited a few minutes before the Medical Assistant was ready to check us in to the room.
The group today was small, 9 or 10 patients instead of the usual 15-20. I was still thinking about the migraines I have been having lately, still thinking they were food-related. But I told the Medical Assistant “5” when she asked for my pain level today. Partly because my printer isn’t working–but I’m trying to let go of that for this hour.
It was strange because there was no ambient music. I think that made it more difficult to relax. But I concentrated on mindful breathing and tried to do a body scan. I dozed off 2 or 3 times and I think that must have been when I lost the needles (I think only 2 fell out). I hadn’t realized that I was that sleepy! Maybe the music would have kept me awake.
Nobody was coughing. Nobody’s phone rang, splitting through the silence of the room. I had a lovely footstool, perched at an angle, and a nice pillow behind my back.
And, as always, it seemed the session ended too soon. Jorge picked up the rogue needles from where they had fallen on the floor.
