Church 1.0 Family Day at Alameda Beach

Posted on August 25, 2018 by Jacquie

August 25, 2018

For the past two years, Church 1.0 discussion meetings have been on the first and third Saturdays of the month. The first year, we did social events on the second Saturday, service projects on the fourth Saturday, and had a potluck, picnic, or holiday party on the fifth Saturday every three months. For this past year, we started out with having a Movie Day on the second Saturday and scheduling the fourth Saturday to work with Jonathan on the Morris Taylor Foundation as our service project. By now, both have fizzled out. So the second and fourth Saturdays have become, by default, Church 1.0 Family Days. We now write:

You may be aware that Church 1.0 Spiritual Dialogues are scheduled for the first and third Saturdays of the month (unless otherwise indicated), and the alternate weeks are for Church 1.0 Family Days are when we individually can take advantage of the time we need to spend with our school-age children and their busy activities, with our grandchildren who live out of town, and with our aging parents who desperately need our companionship and support. So we wish you safe travels if you are going out of town this weekend, and a stress-free Saturday if you stay at home.

So when Family Day came on August 25, one day after our anniversary, we decided to go to Trabocco in South Shore Shopping Center for brunch. (I have since found out that a trabacco is “a small pier with a complex architectural fishing hut at its end.”) We pass by this intriguing Italian restaurant every week when we go to Trader Joe’s, but we have never eaten in there.

I ordered what I thought was a salad with chicken: “Insalata di Pollo – Wood-grilled chicken breast over a bed of romaine and radicchio, with cherry tomatoes, applewood smoked bacon, Anchovy-parmesan dressing.” It was actually a chicken SANDWICH, on focaccia bread with pesto, with a spinach and tomato salad on the side. So I calmly removed the bread and ate the salad and chicken together.

As we had planned, we walked through the South Shore parking lot and crossed the street to the sidewalk along Alameda Beach. This is a great place for Emily to walk! As well as for us. The day is sunny and warm, but not too warm, and there are other walkers, other dogs on leashes. We walked as far as Linda felt comfortable then turned around and retraced our steps. Linda and Emily said we need to do this more often!

low-carb, walking
