Lent Without Carbs Update 2

Posted on March 10, 2020 by Jacquie

Linda is at Batra Vision for her pre-op appointment. She parked too close to a wall on my side, so I couldn’t get out to help her. We did all the grocery shopping and walked Emily in South Shore and even picked up Linda’s prescription at Walgreen’s before we came here.

I’ve been doing so well on my carnivore diet (plus Intermittent Fasting) that I’m going to continue another week. Maybe for the duration of Lent, I don’t know. I’ve only lost 1 lb. in 2 weeks but I’ll take it. My blood sugar is getting better but still not that great.

I felt really good yesterday that I successfully dealt with two issues via phone: Foremost Insurance and OneTouch customer service. The latter is even going to send me a new mini USB cable to fit the data port on my new Verio Flex® meter.

Jan got the old Delica® lancer and 33 gauge lancets I mailed to her last week—and she loves it! I will need to get some 33 gauge lancets for my new Delica® Plus lancer at some point. I don’t know how long I’ll continue to use the Verio IQ® meter. Maybe until it needs to be recharged. Or maybe until my next A1C, whether it’s due in March or in May. I’m not going to ask unless I don’t get a notification by mid-May.

I’m aiming to get the tax returns done and ready to mail at the post office 3 weeks from today on Tuesday, March 31. I hope the printer will keep working long enough for me to print out the forms.

I’ve started blogging again on my new Adventist Vegetarian Diabetes site (on Siteground). I doubt that anyone will subscribe; no one subscribed to the old one on WordPress.com. But I will keep blogging whenever I feel like it.

I was hoping to be able to read on my Kindle app on my phone, but the internet here is not strong enough. Of course, it’s not strong enough at home, either.

When we get home, I will fix breakfast/brunch for Linda and Emily. Maybe I will have a beef stick or a cheese stick. All we’ve had is a Peet’s coffee before we went to South Shore. I don’t feel hungry but I have to pee.

We got a 4-roll pack of Charmin Strong mega-rolls in Safeway, and Linda got raw lamb in Trader Joe’s to make more food for Emily this week.

I just stopped to look at Facebook, but now my phone is stopping and starting and stopping endlessly and will continue to do so until I can charge it—or until it finally dies, whichever comes first. Linda says my phone needs a new battery, and she needs a new TENS unit, which is a higher priority.

I’ll probably continue working on Adventist Vegetarian Diabetics when I get home (after I put away the groceries and fix food). It’s amazing how much easier the words flow from my pen on paper than using the computer (probably because I get too distracted with formatting and finding graphics—not to mention Facebook!). However, that dying phone (in my backpack on the floor) is driving me nuts!

Tomorrow (Wednesday) will be a “down day.” Linda said she lost 12 lbs. while she was sick. She may not gain it back because she eats so little. Two scrambled eggs with cheese for breakfast and coffee (if we have it) with heavy cream and maple syrup. Then half a cup of Greek yogurt with maple syrup for supper. A cup of kefir twice a day to take her pills, and one or two 12-oz. tumblers of organic whole milk. Sometimes a Mt. Dew.

I have 5 oz. of half-and-half twice a day to take my pills. I have one egg and two slices of bacon for breakfast, and coffee with heavy cream. I drink water in the afternoon. Cottage cheese for supper. Sometimes a cheese stick or a beef stick.

I’ve done a lot of coloring while I “watch” my shows on NBC and ABC. Last night I chatted with Jan on Private Messenger for an hour. So Rosie had all of that to read this morning!

I hope Lisa and Aaron have a successful Open House this weekend. I hope Scott gets well and has a good week with the boys, and that Naomi has a safe flight home.

Well, I’m done writing in the car. The lighting is bad because there’s walls on three sides. And I still have to pee.

Oh yes, I failed to get my reusable grocery bags, so I bought a new one at Safeway and one at Trader Joe’s.

On impulse, I had Linda stop at Papa Murphy’s and we got a Crustless Pizza!

carnivore diet, cataracts, eye care, intermittent fasting, Lent, pizza, TENS unit, vision
