Today Francis facilitated the hour as Julie Whitehead was off. However, he gave the first 30 minutes to a PharmD (Janny Lee), a new member of the Union City Pain Clinic, who talked about pain medications. That seemed very strange to me as one of the cardinal rules of the Pain Management Program that I attended in 2018 was that there was to be no mention of medications. Ever!
Dr. Lee gave a very academic presentation about pain medications, organized by type, and including side effects of the medications. I commented in the chat that she did not mention that antidepressants can cause high blood sugars for diabetics. She seemed surprised and asked me which one(s), to which I just replied, “Elavil.”
However, the most important point she made about “cannabinoids” is that if a patient is found to be using medical cannabis they will be taken off pharmaceutical pain medication(s). The alleged “reason” is a negative drug interaction. This reinforces my resolve to never admit to any of my healthcare practitioners that I use CBD/THC sublingual tinctures.
For the “gentle movement” part of the session, Francis introduced us to “chair pilates,” an interesting idea! Here’s his resource:
