This is a short post and involves one major category: A1C. Although I had blood drawn for a bunch of stuff, the one I was most interested in knowing—but was most afraid of—was the HbA1C. This should have been done in March, right about the time the lockdown started in the City of San Leandro, the County of Alameda, and the State of California. So I really had a “grace period” of 3 additional months to work on getting my numbers down. I don’t have the vitamin D test results yet, so I hope the lab actually did it. (If not, I may have to go back; but now, at least, I know the drill.)
I ate a carnivore diet for Lent (starting February 28), even continuing after the quarantine started, going until Easter. I fasted a few times (3 days, 72 hours) and tried to do Intermittent Fasting in between the Extended Fasts. And I spent a whole month (May) in walking 30 minutes every single day. Still, I knew my stress levels were high and my daily blood glucose reflected that way too often. I injected insulin more often than I wanted to. I spent 8 days checking blood ketones with my KetoCoach meter and 6 out of the 8 times I was clearly in ketosis (1.5-3.0 mmol/l). (And I will do this again in a few weeks.)

I was really surprised that the lab came through with results so quickly. I wasn’t expecting to get the A1C until Monday of next week. But there it was, the only test that had been ordered by the diabetes nurse, not Dr. Prabaharan. Hemoglobin A1C, 5.8% (120 mg/dL). This is the lowest my A1C has ever been! Yay, me!
