October Transitions

Posted on November 2, 2021November 20, 2021 by Jacquie

Tuesday, October 5, 2021 Alameda Farmers’ Market Ron (the egg guy) told me that their main supplier, a family poultry farm for generations (Great Valley), is going out of business at the end of October. But he said he has found another farm with pasture-raised poultry where he can get the eggs. Pain Group Online…

Request for c-peptide

Posted on October 13, 2021October 14, 2021 by Jacquie

I knew I would be getting a request to have my A1C bloodwork done in September, and so I did indeed receive a (probably) automated message that it was time, and the message had a handy link for making an appointment with the laboratory. But first I wanted to make a request to Dr. Prabaharan….

Laboratory Appointment, Spring 2021

Posted on March 29, 2021May 1, 2021 by Jacquie

Monday, March 29, 2021, 9:15 a.m. I decided I was going to fast, even though I was not told to fast for this blood draw. I want to see if fasting makes any difference in the lipid panel. Also, I stopped taking biotin as of last Wednesday, based on Dr. Brian Mowll’s statement: “Biotin in large…

Blood work in July

Posted on July 10, 2020 by Jacquie

Thursday, July 9, 2020 This is a short post and involves one major category: A1C. Although I had blood drawn for a bunch of stuff, the one I was most interested in knowing—but was most afraid of—was the HbA1C. This should have been done in March, right about the time the lockdown started in the…

Fasting Blood Draw

Posted on November 25, 2019 by Jacquie

Monday, November 25, 2019, 11:00 a.m. I woke up at 9:30 a.m. and got out of bed then. I checked my blood then decided to take a shower and get clean clothes on, just so I would feel better. It was a sunny morning but very windy. I hit EVERY single red light at every…

Spring 2019 A1C (& other Tests)

Posted on March 8, 2019 by Jacquie

Friday, March 8, 2019 Linda was still hurting so much that I drove myself to the San Leandro Kaiser lab for the required blood tests. When I checked in, the receptionist asked me if I knew that a urine test was requested and was I able to do one today. After what I hoped was…

The Rest of the Routine Lab Work

Posted on September 7, 2018 by Jacquie

September 7, 2018 Even though Dr. Prabaharan had strongly recommended “going early in the day” for a blood draw, I was not able to get up and out until 11:00 a.m. so I asked Linda to take me. “I adulted yesterday,” I reminded her, “when I drove to my dental appointment.” The laboratory waiting room…

Two Appointments in One Day

Posted on September 6, 2018 by Jacquie

September 6, 2018 It started on Labor Day, September 3, when I got up enough courage to send an email to Dr. Prabaharan, requesting a new meter, the OneTouch Verio IQ meter starter kit, which includes the meter, charging cable and AC adapter, a OneTouch Delica lancing device, 10 lancets, control solution, and 10 test…

Appointment with New PCP

Posted on August 23, 2018 by Jacquie

August 23, 2018, 2:45 p.m. I liked it that my appointment with my new PCP was only 2 miles away from home (instead of 10+ miles to Alameda). I did not like it that there is no wi-fi or cell phone coverage inside the Kaiser building. I checked in a half hour early, anticipating that…

More Lab Tests Ordered

Posted on March 16, 2018 by Jacquie

March 16, 2018 I wasn’t particularly anxious to have another A1C yet, since I have been in chronic pain since October and have experienced a lot of stress. But I had to have it, and it was even more disappointing than I had feared. 6.6%. Heavy sigh.
